In the realm of artistry, where formal education often takes centre stage, there exist extraordinary stories of individuals who carve their own path, defying conventions and unlocking their creative potential through sheer determination. One such tale is that of Swathi Shambhatnavar (Triveni Kulkarni), a self-taught woman artist who not only mastered her craft independently but also transformed her passion into a thriving small-scale art business.

Triveni is from Dharwad and inherited her love for her art from her father. Triveni discovered her love for art at a young age. She loved making greeting cards and her friends loved it. Along with art, she is a poet and writes in Kannada on subjects like nature, traditions and women. She is also a trained Bharatanatyam Dancer. Her favourite passion apart from painting is Cooking. She loves to cook different dishes as the family does not prefer outside food.
Poem on Women
Poem on Deepawali
Poem on Food
The Birth of a Business
After she got married, initially it was difficult to pursue her dream as it was a joint family. Then she delivered her daughter in a year. So, Swathi and her husband took decision to delay her a passion a bit as they wanted to focus on their daughter’s well-being for a few years. Once Swathi started to have some free time she started painting as a time pass.
As her proficiency in art blossomed, Triveni began receiving admiration for her unique creations. Encouraged by the positive response combined with immense support from her husband Sunil Shambhatnavar (who is also an entrepreneur, having an Electronic Manufacturing Company) and daughter Sakshi Shambhatnavar (Her hobby is Tarot Reading), she decided to take a bold step—transforming her artistic endeavours into a small-scale art business. Armed with a portfolio that reflected her evolution as an artist, she set out to share her work with the world.
In 2016 she put her first stall in an Exhibition. She received a lot of positive feedback for her unique products. This experience holds great significance for her. The unique feature of her products in the exhibition was that there was no other stall with similar products. This was so heartening for her as she felt she was in a unique space.
The Supportive Foundation

Swathi receives support from her husband and daughter, who assist in applying the base paint to the articles. After the base paint has dried, Triveni works her magic to enhance and complete the pieces. Sakshi helps her mother with all the marketing. Together the trio transformed a passion into a thriving small-scale business and have lovingly named it Triveni Handi Works. The major aspect is that, they also help her in household work so that she gets ample time to concentrate on her Art.
Going forward the plan is to open her own showroom with a workshop. She wants to train women who are interested to learn and start their own business so that they can be self reliant. This is her way of giving back to the society.
