Just about everything

Lines I like from the book “Don’t Believe Everything You Think”

My friend Kritika handed me this book written by Joseph Nguyen. In this book, the author shares insights into how our minds work, why we get stressed and some simple techniques to overcome anxiety.

I enjoyed reading this book. In this post, I like to share some lines I liked from the book.

  1. One who looks around him is intelligent, one who looks within him is wise.
  2. Pain is unavoidable, but how we react to that pain is up to us, and that reaction will dictate whether or not we suffer.
  3. It’s not the events that happen in our lives but our interpretation of them that causes us to feel good or bad.
  4. The root cause of our suffering is our own thinking. By changing our thinking, we can change our reality. Our emotions come not from the external events but from our thinking about them.
  5. True freedom isn’t having complete control of our minds but in the ability to be unattached to whatever happens in it.
  6. Our quality of life is determined by the peace, fulfilment, and joy we feel on daily basis.
  7. You are just not a product of your environment but a co-creator of it.
  8. A thought takes little or no effort to produce; it’s something that just happens. Thinking, on the other hand, is the judgement or opinion we have about our thoughts. Thoughts create, Thinking destroys.
  9. You do not have to “try” to be present or “think positively” to experience love, joy, bliss or any other positive emotions because those emotions are our natural state when we are not thinking.
  10. One of the greatest powers we posses is choice.
  11. Anxiety is thought without control. Flow is control with thought.
  12. There are no limitations to mind except those we acknowledge.
  13. If you want to stay alive nourish your body. If you want to feel alive nourish your soul.
  14. Nothing that grows can stay the same – especially you. It is not change that we should fear but staying the same.
  15. It’s not what we have but how we feel inside that is the true measure of success, joy and fulfilment.
  16. Our job is determining what we want, not necessarily how to get it. The how is up to the universe, and delegating this responsibility is ideal because there are an infinite number of ways to bring about what we want in life.
  17. By challenging long held beliefs and letting go of what is no longer serves us, we create room for new ideas that can enrich our lives. Continually asking questions that challenge our current thinking is one of the best ways to create space in our minds.

About Me

A simplenext door woman working in IT as a security consultant. I am a dutiful daughter, daughter-in-law, wife and also a mother to two wonderful little humans.

I love reading , walks in nature and listening to experiences of others. I get inspired by a lot of women who have broken the traditional barriers and have gone to achieve great things for themselves. Few women who really Inspire me are the women in my family, Mother Teresa, Sushma Swaraj, Nirmala Seetharaman, My female colleagues who I am desperately waiting to introduce in this blog.

Welcome to my blog. Hope you enjoy reading it.
