Monthly Digest – Draupadi

A painting by Raja Ravi Varma – source available here.

Draupadi was the wife of Pandava’s, a prominent character in Mahabharata. She is a role model in many sense for the us women. In this post, I would like to highlight qualities of Draupadi that we can imbibe and lead a more healthier and happier life.

Strength and Courage

Injustice was done to her time and again but she refused to accept it. When she was humiliated by Kauravas, she refused to be treated as mere object and demanded respect as a person.

Relevance today: If you have a dream, take that first step towards fulfilment. Failing is better than not trying at all.

Resilience

She was humiliated in public, sent to exile, faced hardships and even lost all her sons in kurukshetra war. But despite immense tragedy did not give up or loose hope.

Relevance today: You will fail, you will be criticised. Do not stop, try doing things differently and show the world how it can be done your way.

Intelligence

She was a strategic planner and helped Pandava’s in the war. She was also a skilled diplomat. It is said that she was well versed in literature and was knowledgeable about a wide range of subjects.

Relevance today: Learning never stops. Everything you learn, you will use one or other day in life. You will always need a bit of upskilling. Invest in self. Some very useful skills to master : Time management, Financial management and Planning your day.

Compassion

Despite the injustice she suffered, she was compassionate towards others. She was known for her caring nature and generosity.

Relevance today: Care for yourself and people around you. Heartily appreciate atleast one another woman every day. Your appreciation might make a big difference in their day.

Overall, Draupadi’s character is a symbol of strong femininity. Let us get inspired, pursue our dreams and lead life in elegance.
